Dogs and kids are a unique combination! They can go together or
against each other just depends on the understanding that both has for one another. With any relationship it takes, trust, understanding, patients, and knowing a little about each other. Which both kids and puppy or dogs may not quite fully understand without proper guidance, and someone to walk them through it.
Being that you are the head of the team, pack, or group whatever you want to call your new family, someone is in charge of laying the ground rules on how things will go to build a happy, strong, and sustainable household. With that being said that is mom or dad responsibility.
Things will go wrong but some things can be prevented with proper planning, structure, boundaries, and guidelines. Things like bites, potty training, eating unnecessary food, chewing up toys. All sounds simple but yet these things still happen are not getting better.
Bites can easily be avoiding simply by monitoring your child's activity level with the dog or puppy. Some dogs are great and patience with kids some won't tolerate their wild behavior, mood changes, inconsistencies, lack of boundary, and always go, go,go. So knowing both limits and behavior is a must. If you have any question contact me for further details. Click here
Potty training just like kids need a clear understanding at a young age, a tight schedule, and lots of patience. Understanding that what goes in must come out. When dogs get hyper, eat or drink, get very active, or nervous they tend to use the bathroom a lot more. Puppies don't realize their bladder movement until the later months because their bodies and minds are still developing so accidents can occur. Also contact me for any further questions.
Having boundaries and explaining to kids that dogs don't eat like we do and feeding them junk food like fruit loops is not healthy for them to live long and strong. Keeping puppies and dogs away from the kitchen and dinner table is essential for counter suffers and table scraps scavengers. It is best to set boundaries for your dog or puppy early because it can be of a challenge later on. A great example is in the kitchen dogs noise are on high alert and can find the most hidden treasures on the floors that we may not see and over look that tasty snack can lead to a high vet bill that could have been avoided with proper training. Having your kids toys at easy access for a bored puppy or dog will lead to them chewing or even eating something that could have been keep away from them. Having to replace your child's favorite toy could have been as simple as moving the toy and replacing it with a chew toy. Dogs and puppy love as so much that they want to play with our things as a sign of love. But what they don't know is that what they are chewing up cost us lots of money. They live is a cost free world that you have to take care of.
